The town of Seyðisfjörður lies in a remote area of the Eastfjords, set in an orphaned but beautiful landscape. It is a popular place for a 'jumping off' point from the ring road around Iceland, 25 km away.

As well as tourists, Seyðisfjörður also welcomes hundreds of travellers from mainland Europe once a week - it is here that Iceland's only passenger ferry port with services to the Faroes and Denmark is located.

Traditional village and beautiful mountains

Seyðisfjörður attracts tourists with its traditional Icelandic village appearance with typical wooden houses with colourful facades and a small church.

A modern attraction is the pedestrian zone leading to the local church painted in rainbow colours inspired by the support of the LGBTQ community.

Seyðisfjörður is surrounded by bare mountains up to 1 000 metres high and a long sea fjord, which together offer breathtaking views. Take a short or longer walk along one of the many hiking trails around the town and stay overnight.

Accommodation

With Iceland's most important passenger port at Seyðisfjörður, you can take advantage of several guesthouses and hotels, making the town an ideal overnight stopover point when travelling around Iceland.

How to get there?

Seyðisfjörður is accessible via the well-maintained and year-round passable asphalt road number 93, which leads from Egilsstaðir, the largest town in eastern Iceland, 25 km away (see route map). The road itself is a great experience, especially the last third of the drive, when it descends from heights of up to 700 metres down to the sea in several switchbacks.

The capital Reykjavík is over 660 km away (see route map).
