On your way to the Látrabjarg bird cliffs on the westernmost tip of Iceland, you will not miss the tiny village of Breiðavík with its long, wide and open beach facing the endless ocean.

Compare car rental prices in Iceland

The village itself, or rather a cluster of houses, consists of one Hotel Breidavik Guesthouse with (for Iceland) very reasonable prices, two smaller houses and one romantic-looking church of typical Icelandic architecture.

Breiðavík's main natural landmark is the more than 2km wide beach of fine golden sand and black lava rocks that fills the entire bay of the wide fjord. A steady westerly wind blows the sand from the beach far inland into the grassy hinterland and the adjacent rocky cliffs are also covered with it.

Breiðavík is just off the 612 road leading to Látrabjarg and cannot be missed.
