Vlychada Beach (sometimes spelled Vlichada) is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Santorini. At the very least, it clearly shows the character of the island's coastline - rugged, rocky and volcanic in origin.

The beach and the limestone cliffs

Vlychada consists of a fairly narrow strip of black to grey volcanic sand with occasional pebbles, which stretches from the village of the same name along the pitorean limestone cliffs. The wind has sculpted these cliffs into strange shapes, carving irregular crevices, grooves and small ravines into them, creating an absolutely magical aspect to this part of the coastline.

The best beach resorts in Santorini

The entrance to the sea is quite steep, making the beach particularly suitable for swimming.

Right from the beginning of the beach, still near the village of Vlichada, you can rent a sunbed and umbrella and refresh yourself in the small snack bar. From here on, the beach continues as a purely natural beach with no human intervention.

At the very end of the beach, you will find a small, very secluded Eros Beach with its own refreshments and access from the inland.

Accommodation Vlychada

The village of Vlychada is one of the smallest resorts on Santorini, which is reflected in the sparse accommodation on offer. Virtually the only accommodation options are the small but very nice Villa Michalis, with reasonable prices between 1 800 and 73 eur per night, and a guesthouse Porto Villa with similar prices.

Vlychada is an ideal place for a quiet holiday, with several tavernas, a small grocery store and beach facilities.

How to get to the beach?

There are buses from Fira and Megalochori to Vlihada only 2-3 times a day (marked as Vlihada in the timetable ). It's definitely preferable to drive here in a rented car, which you can use to get around the more remote beaches on the south coast.
