Nea Vrasna

Nea Vrasna

Although this resort is no longer administratively located in Halkidiki, it is usually included in this region for easy orientation.

The town of Nea Vrasna can be found on the shores of the Gulf of Strimona, exactly where the Halkidiki peninsula turns into the "normal" Greek mainland.

Nea Vrasna forms one large resort with the neighbouring towns of Asprovalta and Stavros, so you can expect the longest beaches in Halkidiki.

The resort strip is divided into three parts:

  • Nea Vrasna a Vrasna - the middle part with lots of tavernas and bars, but quieter in the evening and ideal for families with children.
  • Stavros - the smaller town on the hillside, the scenery is probably the best. Nightlife lovers will enjoy it here, bars are open till early morning in the town centre and on the beach
  • Asprovalta - the lively resort north of Vrasna also appeals to lovers of nightlife, bars and discos, while the beaches are beautifully landscaped and offer the widest range of water activities

Beaches and swimming

A beautiful beach with fine white sand fills the entire edge of the Gulf of Strimona and with a length of almost 8 km is unrivalled in Chalkidiki.

The beach provides facilities for all kinds of travellers. The northern end is quiet and almost without facilities, hence with a minimum of visitors.

As the beach progresses southwards and approaches the resorts, the density of bars, restaurants, sunbed hire and water sports facilities increases and the 5km strip between Asprovalta and Stavros really comes alive.

The beach offers fun for small children, as the entry into the water is gentle for the first 50 metres, then the bottom starts to drop more steeply. Swimmers and water sports enthusiasts will also enjoy it.

As the beach is very wide and there are practically no rocks or reefs, you won't enjoy snorkelling here.

Accommodation Nea Vrasna

Here you will find dozens of apartments, studios, guesthouses, cheap and expensive hotels. Thanks to the extra competition, you'll find accommodation from 32 eur per night in a 2-bed room in the outskirts of summer.

For the cheaper apartments, you shouldn't miss the holiday home Konstantinos-Elli Rooms right in the centre of Nea Vrasna just a few metres from the beach or a well rated Four Seasons Studio Asprovalta.

If you prefer classic hotels, look at the very cheap but clean and modern Hotel Argilos* in Asprovalta or Calma Beach Hotel *** in Stavros, right by the beach and surrounded by beautiful scenery.

How to get to Nea Vrasna?

The resort is 87 km from Thessaloniki Airport and can be reached in less than an hour and a half by car. Most of the local accommodation offers free parking. It's definitely best to head to Nea Vrasna by rental car to explore other beaches in the area.

However, if you're not planning to visit the smaller beaches around the area, Nea Vrasna itself can also be reached by KTEL-Thessalonikis bus, about 9 times a day from Thessaloniki's main station, Makedonia.

This makes it one of the few resorts in Halkidiki to be reached from this bus station; most of the others are reached by another company, KTEL Halkidikis, from the bus station to the south-east of the town.

The bus takes 2.5 hours and the ticket costs about 3,70 eur. You can find the timetable on the bus station's website ktelmacedonia.gr/en
