Part of Schönrbunn Castle Park is set aside for one of the oldest zoos in the world, founded in 1752.

The beautiful and very compact grounds delight with beautifully landscaped areas for animals and visitors and many interactive exhibitions for children.

Although Vienna Zoo is relatively small in size, it has long vied for the position of the best zoo (especially with Prague Zoo) in Europe.

What to see at the zoo?

You can visit more than 500 species of animals on an area of more than 17 hectares.

One of the main attractions of Vienna Zoo are the giant pandas, which it keeps as one of about 25 zoos in the world. It was also the first zoo in Europe to give birth to the first giant panda in Europe.

The desert pavilions, insect pavilions and the sea lion exhibit are also big draws.

Admission and opening hours

The zoo is open 365 days a year, every day from 9:00 am.
